OBITUARY

Mrs. C. N. Christensen

Christine Petrea Peterson was born in Denmark Feb. 27, 1867, her parents being Fredrik and Anna Peterson. When she was five years old, in 1872, her parents immigrated to America, settling in Racine, Wis., where they resided five years. In 1877 they came to Iowa, settling in Story City, where Christine grew to womanhood and lived practically all her life.

May 17, 1888, she was married to C. N. Christensen, then a clerk and bookkeeper in the Corneliussen store. To this union three children were born, Namely, Otto G., Margaret (now Mrs. A. V. Mattern of Green Bay, Wis.) and Marie (now Mrs. C. C. Larson of this place.) These children, with nine grandchildren, and the husband survive her.

Mrs. Christensen took sick several years ago. While she was apparently better at times, her loved ones knew she was gradually getting weaker, tho none expected the end to come as quickly as it did. She passed to the better land May 14, 1928, at the age of two months over 61 years.

Her parents preceded her in death. Her mother died in Texas in January of 1895 and her father died here in 1915. Her sister, Mrs. Olaf Hemness, lives in Story City, and her brother, Anton Peterson, lives at Liverpool, Texas.

Funeral services were held May 17th, which would have been Mr. and Mrs. Christensen's fortieth wedding anniversary had she lived. Rev. Scarvie, her pastor, officiated. The pall bearers were: E. L. Ericson, T. T. Holm, A. C. Larson, John H. Johnson, Carl Bentson and John Jorgenson.

The large number of people at the funeral bore testimony to the high regard in which Mrs. Christensen was held in this community in which she had spent her life. Those from a distance at the funeral were Mrs. Annie Krull, Mr. and Mrs. Spear, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Campbell and ther former's mother, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Donhowe of Sigourney, Lee Hemness of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Jens Haage of Bode, Carl Bentson of Jewell, and Mrs. Dave Anderson of Williams.
