OBITUARY
Frederick Folger
Frederick Folger was born in the year 1844, the 4th day of May, in the State of Vermont, and departed this life at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 12 days.
Mr. Folger was a very active man retaining full control of his faculties up to the time of his death. He died of apoplexy at McCallsburg enroute to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Haire.
Mr. Folger was of a family of nine, all having preceded him in death with the exception of two sisters, Mrs. Ida Blossom of Granville, New York, and Mrs. Marg. Ely of Rosendale, Kansas.
He was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting at the age of 17; Was in Co. E 5th Vermont Infantry, 6th Corps; Served four years participating in twenty four battles including the battle of the Wilderness and Gettysburg and received at the end of the War an honorable discharge.
Mr. Folger lived in Duncombe, Ia., being a druggist, also served in the capacity of Postmaster, a number of years later moving to Marshalltown. He was a member of the National Soldiers' Home at Danvlle, Ill.
He is survived by his widow and five children, namely J. M. Folger of Manly, Ia.; Mrs. Rosabel Reilly of Marshalltown; Mrs. Joe Haire of this place; Fred A. Folger and Miss Ruth Folger of Hudson Falls, N. Y. and 10 grand children, also raised two young children, Mrs. Leonard Thorsbakken, Caddot, Wis. and Miss Gladys Gustafson, Marshalltown.
In visits to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Haire, he made many acquaintances. He was a member of the Baptist church and a Mason.
