OREN M. LAKE
Oren M. Lake, son of Elijah and Elizabeth Lake, was born in Eureka, Ill., Aug. 5, 1899. When he was seven years of age he came with his parents to Iowa and settled on a farm on Highway 69, south of Story City. Here he grew to manhood, attending school at Gilbert.
He was married to Edna Fisk, of Gilbert on Dec. 11, 1890. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.
To this union were born nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Albert of Anamosa; Mrs. Stella Ahrens of Story City; Herbert of Whittier, Calif.; Galen and Russell of Ames; Mrs. Harley Doolittle of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Willard of Story City. These besides he sorrowing widow survive the loss of this loved one. There are also 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Mr. Lake was a rural mail carrier out of Gilbert for 33 years. When he retired, they moved to Mt. Grove, Missouri and lived there for seven years. In 1941, he and his wife moved back to Iowa and located in Story City living there until his death. After a lingering illness and continuing weakness, he passed away last Thursday, Jan. 20, 1955. He had reached the age of 85 years, 5 months and 15 days.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Grace EUB church in Story City, with the pastor, W. D. Winter officiating.
Mrs. Luther Matson and Harlan Winter sang "No Night There," "Beyond the Sunset" and "Abide with Me." Janet Jamison accompanied at the organ.
Memorials were S. S. Building fund $103; Missions, $20; and Memorial hospital $6.
Serving as pallbearers were Marvin Ahrens, John Adduci, Peter B. Larson, Max Lake, Rodney Lake and Donald Doolittle.
Among those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Wicker and Diane of St. Charles, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fisk, Kellerton, Ia.; Lowell Fisk, Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Gilbert, Mrs. Frank Foster, Grove Foster and Miss Lucinda Foster, all of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. James Brown of Gilbert; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rainbolt of Cedar Rapids.
