THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 18, 2005.

Arthur Thomas "Tom" Wetteland, 85, of Boone and formerly of Ames and Jewell, died on Oct. 14, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.

Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone. Graveside services and burial with full military honors will be Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.

Tom was born in Ames on Feb. 6, 1920, the son of Sanford and Pearl (Moore) Wetteland. He graduated from Ames High School in 1938. He shortly attended Iowa State University and graduated from watch-making school in Kansas City in 1945. Tom served with the United States Coast guard during World War II. On Nov. 23, 1947, he married Josephine Terhune in Cedar Rapids. In earlier years, Tom was a jeweler for 20 years, and the couple lived in Cedar Rapids and Jewell. The couple moved to Boone in 1965 and Tom was employed at the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames as a maintenance worker on autoclaves and small equipment. He retired in 1987.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mark.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Jo) of Boone; two daughters, Hollie Wetteland of Magnolia, Texas, and Sondra Guilford and husband, David of Billings, Mont.; two brothers, Stanley Wetteland of West Des Moines, and Jerry Wetteland of Burnsville, Minn.; two sisters, Connie Trueblood of Salina Kan., and Sigrid Spaeth of Loveland, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Beulah Wetteland of Boone; and five grandsons

Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Thursday from noon until 9 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Friday at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa-Boone Chapter.
