Obituary

MRS. MALINA STENSLAND

Malina Cecelia, daughter of John and Malina Helgoy, was born in Stavanger, Norway, May 19th, 1876, and passed away in her home in Story City, Mar. 17, at the age of 76 years.

April 11, 1900 she was united in marriage to Oney Stensland in the parish of Flater, Stavanger, Norway. They came to America the same spring. They stayed with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. O. N. Skogerboe, until they moved to their new home, 5 miles west of Randall. Here all their children were born and reared. Shortly after the death of her husband, on October 4, 1930, she moved to Radcliffe where she lived until she moved to her home in Story City in 1943.

She leaves to mourn her departure, eight children and 25 grandchildren: Three sons, Abel of Bricelyn, Minn.; Bert of Story City, Elmer of Milwaukee, Wis.; and five daughters, Mabel (Mrs. Luther Egemo), Story City; Judith (Mrs. Thelmer Ford), Jewell; Agnes (Mrs. Lewis Marson), Story City; Selma (Mrs. Franklin Lee), McCallsburg; Jo Ella (Mrs. Reuben Anderson), Shell Lake, Wis.; one sister, Mrs. O. N. Skogerboe, Wells, Minn., and two sisters and one brother in Norway.

When Mrs. Stensland moved to Story City she had her church membership transferred to the Bethel church, where she was an active member. Her attendance at worship services, ladies aid, and the weekly prayer meetings, was a vital part of her life. She now also faithful in calling on the older members, the sick, and at the Sunset Home where she had many of her friends.

By her children and grandchildren she will always be remembered as a mother and grandmother who fulfilled every purpose for which God had placed her in their midst. Her every thought was to be such a witness for her Lord, to her children, that they might be led to make the same choice she had made. At an early age she surrendered to the Lord and continued to live a consistent Christian life unto the end.

Last Rites

Funeral services were held at Bethel church last Thursday, with the Rev. A. J. Bringle officiating, following a prayer service at the Larson-Peterson funeral home.

Pallbearers were Guy Rod, Odie Lenning, Archie Swanson, Martin S. Olson, Herman Olson and Orville Olson. Burial was in the Jewell cemetery beside her husband.

Rev. Bringle sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name" at the funeral home, Mrs. Benj. Anderson and Truman Quam sang "Face to Face" and Mrs. O. J. Satre sang "Gud Skal al Ting Mage" at the church. A sum of $240 was given in her memory.
