Omund Knutson

Omund Knutson was born at Aade, Hardanger, Norway, June 24, 1841, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dan Davis in Story City, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 10 days.

At the age of 24 he immigrated to America, settling at Ottawa, Ill. From there he moved to Cedar Rapids and later was married at Norway, Iowa, to Mary Jensen (Ytrevold).

With hi family he moved to Story City in 1884, and this place was his home until the time of his death. For a number of years he was section foremen on the old Iowa Central railroad, but during the past eighteen years he has acted in the capacity of janitor of the local schools. He was taken sick last fall, with complication largely due to his age, and failed rapidly. As janitor of our schools he has come in touch with hundreds of our children and young men and women, and it is not too much to say that all have a tender spot in their heart for him.

His wife died nine years ago, but five children are left to mourn his death, namely Knut Knutson of Gilman, Ole K. Knutson of Seattle, Wash., Thos. Knutson and Mrs. Dan Davis of this place, and Mrs. Anna Ditmer of Oklahoma City, Okla., besides 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and one brother Mr. Knute Prescott.

The funeal services were held Sunday in the Grace church, conducted by Rev. Wendel. Among the beautiful floral tributes was a very fine offering from the pupils of the public schools.
