Billa Evelyn York Darner, formerly of Des Moines, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at her home.

Billa was born in Abbott, Arkansas on June 10, 1929 to Florence and Bryan York. She graduated from Waldron High School in 1947. She attended National College in Kansas City and Drake University in Des Moines. She married Robert Andrew Darner on August 12, 1950 at First Methodist Church in Des Moines.

Billa's favorite hobby was keeping in touch with family and friends from work and her high school and college days. She sent out numerous cards and letters to her friends and relatives for each holiday, birthday and other events in their lives.

She also enjoyed traveling and had visited most of the 50 states, as well as over a dozen countries. She was able to travel with her family to many beautiful places which she found so amazing. Billa also enjoyed bird watching, visiting flower gardens and attending local musical events.

Billa was an interviewer at Job Service of Iowa from 1966 until her retirement in 1991. She had worked previously at the Des Moines Register, Meredith Publishing, and Iowa State University.

Billa is lovingly remembered by her husband Robert, her daughter Beth and her son-in-law Larry Johnson, her sister Mettie Eloine Gannon, brothers Welton, James E, and W. Joe York, as well as many nieces and nephews. Proceeding her in death were her parents, Florence and Bryan York, and her brother, Sam York.

Memorials given to the family will be donated to one of Billa's favorite charities. Billa was an organ donor and requested her body be cremated. She also requested no funeral services.
