Martin Emberg
Martin Emberg, for over 35 years a resident of Slater, died at his home in Madrid, September 3rd, after a very severe illness of two weeks' duration, he being the victim of paralysis. He had been in poor health the past three years.
Deceased was born May 22nd, 1850, at Ofvanaker Socken, Helsingland, Sweden. He came to America in 1868, settling down in Illinois. In the fall of 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Britta Johnson of Monmouth, Ill. To this union were born two sons. The oldest died at the age of 3 years. Twelve days later his brother died. In 1875 Mr. and Mrs. Emberg moved to Boone county, Iowa, where his wife passed away, September 27th, 1899. March 28th, 1901 he married again, his wife being Mrs. Hilda Lundeen of Des Moines. To this union were born two daughters, Ruth and Ruby, who, together with a loving wife and a foster daughter, Mrs. P. A. Engwall of Madrid, a step daughter, Mrs. Axel Johnson, a brother, Peter, of northwest of Slater ad a brother and sister in Sweden are left to mourn his death.
Deceased became a Christian early in life and was a member of the Swedish Mission church at Madrid. Funeral services were held from his late home and church at Madrid, Tuesday, September 5th, the services being in charge of his pastor, Rev. Dahlberg, assisted by Rev. Coleman. Music was provided by a quartet and his favorite songs were sung. There were many beautiful flowers. Interment was made in the Hillsdale cemetery east of Madrid. (Contributed.)
