Last Rites Held for Sanford Tesdell, 66

Last rites were held Friday afternoon for Sanford Tesdell, who passed away at his home Tuesday, June 24, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Tesdell was 66 years of age.

A short prayer service was held at the home at which time Pastor Leo O. Bjorlie spoke briefly, using the 23rd Psalm as his text.

Services were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 2 p. m. Pastor Bjorlie used John 1:4 as his text. Robert Weeks sang two selections, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Sometime We'll Understand." Mrs. Oliver Newman was the organist.

There were many memorial gifts to worthy organizations. The beautiful floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Merville Alleman.

Pallbearers were LaVerne Helland, Melvin Tesdell, Edward Tesdell and Ed Sydnes, all nephews of the deceased.

Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Obituary

Sanford Tesdell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Severt Tesdall, was born on a farm near Slater on Feb. 17, 1892. He was one of a family of eight children of whom four are living.

He attended Slater High School and graduated from West High in Des Moines. He also attended Iowa State College at Ames. Mr. Tesdell followed the occupation of farming for 42 years.

He was united in marriage to Olive Osmundson of Slater in 1915. Three children, Severt, Paul and Betty, were born to them and all grew up on the family farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Tesdell moved into their new home in Slater early last spring.

Besides his wife, he is survived by the three children, Severt and Paul of Des Moines and Mrs. L. E. (Betty) Thompson of near Slater; five grandchildren; two brothers, Ben and Leonard of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Sydnes and Mrs. Will Cassel of Slater, and many other relatives and friends.

His love of people, young and old, has reflected itself during his illness and death.
