Mrs. Burney Tweedt Services on Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Burney Tweedt were held on Friday, Mar. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Palestine Lutheran Church.
Richard Will, soloist sang "Nearer Still Nearer" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," accompanied by Mrs. Noel Larson on the organ. Pastor Ernest Thompson based his meditation on Philippians 4:3-7. The service closed with the congregation singing "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name."
Pallbearers were Silas K. Tweedt, Norman Tweedt, Donald Tweedt, Burnie Tweedt, Jr., Clare Tweedt and Romain Lee.
Interment was in the Palestine Cemetery.
Obituary
Clara Nellie Tweedt was born April 22, 1895 at Kelley, Ia., to parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Lee. She was baptized in infancy by Rev. Tvedt. She was confirmed by Rev. Holman at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley.
On Aug. 27,1914 she was joined in holy matrimony to Burney Tweedt of Huxley. They made their home on a farm west of Palestine Lutheran Church for 52 years where they reared a family of 10 children.
In August 1966 Burney and Clara retired from the farm and moved into Huxley where they lived until the time of her death.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, one sister, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
She is survived by her husband, Burney, to whom she was married for 58 years; five daughters, Mrs. H. M. (Gladys) Barnes of Cole Camp, Mo., Mrs. Raymond (Beulah) Allen, Mrs. Raymond (Frances) Olson and Mrs. Raymond (Wilma) Shiery, all of Houston, Tex. and Mrs. Richard (Mildred) Brown of Boone, five sons, Silas Kenneth of Magnolia, Tex., Norman of San Leandro, California, Donald of San Antonio, Tex., but presently stationed with the Army in Korea, Burney, Jr. of Des Moines and Clare of Huxley; 45 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; also a sister, Dena Lee of Lamberton, Minn., and a brother George Lee of Humboldt, Ia. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
