Funeral Rites for Oscar J. Olson Were Held at Slater
Slater, Feb. 24--Funeral services for Oscar J. Olson of Everett, Washington, were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Riis Funeral home in Slater, where Rev. H. E. Jacobson of Huxley conducted a brief prayer service.
At 2:30 o'clock services were held at the Palestine church near Huxley. Rev. A. J. Kreutzmann of Alleman had charge of the services and used as his text the 23rd Psalm. Assisting in the services were Rev. H. E Jacobson of Huxley, Rev. Roy Olson of Minneapolis, and Rev. Peter Buland of Cambridge.
The many beautiful floral offerings paid silent tribute to the memory of the departed. Gifts of money to the missions in his memory were also given by relatives and friends.
The pallbearers were Ben Tesdell of Des Moines; Carl Tesdell and Thor Mason of Huxley; Sanford Tesdell of Slater; Walter Gfeller of Alleman and T. T. Lee of Kelley. Burial was made in the Palestine cemetery with Rev. H. E. Jacobson in charge of the service.
Oscar John Olson was born at Harlan, Iowa, October 13, 1886, and died at the General hospital at Everett, Washington, February 16, 1944, at the age of 57 years, 3 months and 16 days. He was the son of Rasmus and Engel Olson.
He was married to Bertha Louise Lee in 1907 and they made their home on a farm in the Alleman community, southeast of Slater. His wife preceded him in death 8 years ago.
His second marriage took place in 1937 to Mrs. Lillie Moore. In 1938 they moved to a farm near Slater. They also lived in the Shipley community before leaving for the state of Washington in 1941, where Mr. Olson was employed by the Puget Sound Ferry and they made their home at Alderwood Manor. They were members of the Central Lutheran church at Everett, Washington. He was a devoted husband and father and had a large circle of friends. He always took an active part in the church and community affairs.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home in Everett, Wash., Thursday evening at 7 o'clock, before the body was brought to Iowa.
He is survived by his wife and six children, Mrs. Ray Rimathe, Mrs. Truman Brown and Mrs. Herbert Halverson of Slater; Pvt. Robert L. Olson of Bozeman, Montana, Cpl. John Moore of Fort Leonardwood, Mo., and Mrs. Glen Cornwell of Ankeny; 9 grandchildren, also 4 brother, Arthur Olson of Everett, Washington; James Olson of Fairmont, Minn., Rev. Roy Olson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jesse Olson of Jewell, and 3 sisters, Mrs. A. C. Thompson of Alderwood Manor, Washington, Mrs. Walter Berhow of Ames, and Mrs. Joe Johnson of Jewell, and a large number of relatives and friends.
