Rites Friday for Albert G. Lande

Funeral rites for Albert G. Lande, who died at his home south of Huxley Apr. 1, were held Friday afternoon from the Fjeldberg Lutheran church in Huxley with Rev. S. M. Topness in charge. There were brief services at the home at 1:30 and from the church at 2:00 with Pastor Topness leading the large crowd in prayer and scripture reading. Rev. and Mrs. Jacobson of the Palestine Lutheran church sang a duet, "The Old Rugged Cross."

Rev. Topness followed with his sermon. He took his text from St. John 12:1-27, "Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in Me." He emphasized its many comforting messages.

Pastor and Mrs. Jacobson sang another duet, a Norwegian selection, "Herren Har Dig Behov" (God Has Need of You) a Norse favorite through the eighties and nineties. Rev. O. C. Hellekson, his former pastor who visited him thorough his illness, and Rev. Peder Buland, a longtime friend of the family, both brought comforting messages to the sorrowing wife and family.

In closing, Rev. Topness read the names of the many relatives and friends who contributed gifts to the memory of Mr. Lande in the amount of $300. He also expressed the family's thanks to those who contributed floral offerings and to those who served lunch.

Pallbearers were Seward Nass, R. B. Helland, Thor Mason, George Barnes and Roland Hildreth. Burial was in the Fjeldberg cemetery with Rev. Topness reading the committal words.

Albert G. Lande, son of Gjert and Christina Lande, was born in Holsno, Norway, Jan. 1, 1862. At the age of 4 1/2 years he came to America with his parents and settled in Ballard Grove where they lived three years when the family moved to a farm in Polk county, where Albert grew to manhood. He was baptized in Norway and confirmed in the Fjeldberg church of which he was a life-long member.

in 1899 he bought a farm in Story county, south of Husley, where he farmed as long as health permitted. On Jan. 15, 1903 he was united in marriage to Carrie J. Iverson. Six children were born to this union: (Bertha) Mrs. Oley Hauge, (Christine) Mrs. Osmond Sheldahl, Gerhard, Joseph, George and Alfred, all of whom reside in the Huxley community. His eyes failed him for several years and in 1937 he became totally blind. On Dec. 18, 1946 he suffered a stroke which left him helpless the rest of his life. He was a patient sufferer and never complained. Mr. Lande reached the age of 86 years, 3 months and 11 days.

Survivors include his wife, the six children names above, 10 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. L. L. Kloster of Clark, S. D.

"Where no storms ever beat on the glittering strand.
While the years of eternity roll,
Oh, how sweet it will be in that beautiful land,
So free from all sorrow and pain;
With songs on our lips and with harps in our hands,
To meet one another again."

Among those from a distance at the last rites were Mrs. Glady Hernes and Burnette of Canton, S. D.; Mrs. G. S. Gjerde and Mr. and Mrs. Harold McNamara of Hazel, S. D., and relatives from Webster City, Jewell, Williams, Story City, Alleman, Slater, Ames, Des Moines, Cambridge, Kelley, Huxley and other places.
