Oley J. Houge Funeral, Monday

Oley J. Houge, 85, passed away Aug. 9th at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, the H. L. Ritland of Ames.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 12 at 2:00 p. m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater Pastor John Ness conducted the service.

Lester Moore was the soloist accompanied by Mrs. Lowell Accola, organist.

Pallbearers were: Leonard VanScoy, Steven Ritland, Herbert Belz, Craig Ritland, Stanley Dahl and John Ritland.

Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Slater, Ia.

Riis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary

Oley J. Houge was born Jan. 4, 1889 in McCook, Neb., the son of John and Olena Houge. The family moved to Story County when he was six years old.

On Feb. 19, 1913 he was united in marriage to Hattie C. Estrem of Sheldahl. To this union was born a daughter, Letta.

Mr. Houge was engaged in farming in the Slater area until 1947, when he retired and moved to Slater.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie; one daughter, Mrs. H. L. Ritland; two sisters, Mrs. Verna Cole of Ames and Mrs. Mary Dahl of Campbell, Calif.; one brother, Henry of Reno, Nev.; three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
