Final Rites For Cyrus R. Sydnes

Cyrus R. Sydnes, for many years a farmer in this vicinity, passed away at his home east of Slater Saturday morning. He had resided on his farm her for 48 years. Heart disease was the cause of death. Mr. Sydnes was 77 year of age.

He was at the home of his son, Fred, near Huxley, Friday evening when he suffered a heart attack about 9 o'clock and went into a coma early Saturday morning. He passed away at 11 o'clock that morning.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. Brief services were held at the home, followed by services at the Palestine church, near Huxley, at 2 o'clock. They were in charge of the Rev. H. E. Jacobson of Elmore, Minn., friend and former pastor of the deceased.

Pastor Jacobson led the large audience in scripture reading and prayer. A vocal number, "Rock of Ages," was sung by Mrs. Selmer Westvold. The sermon by Rev. Jacobson followed. It was taken from Matthew 5:13-14 and centered on "God's Promises"--they never fail. In closing, Mrs. Westvold sang, "Lead Me Gently Home."

The floral remembrances were many and beautiful, and gifts were given to missions in memory of Mr. Sydnes.

Burial was in the Slater cemetery with Rev. Jacobson reading the committal service. Pallbearers were: Harold Ersland, Ole Fjelland, Albert Alleman, J. C. Ersland, Mike Mickelson and Dale Lester.
