COUGHENOUR, SAMUEL H. (1869-1942)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 15, 1942, page 1, column 6.
“SAMUEL H. COUGHENOUR – Samuel H. Coughenour, son of Solomon and Margaret Donahoe Coughenour, was born near Iowa Center on July 9, 1869, and passed away at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown on Monday, January 5, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 27 days. He had been in failing health for some time, but became seriously ill on New Years Day and was taken to Marshalltown after much difficulty due to the severe weather and submitted to an operation on Friday. He was married to Ida E. Ray, of Maxwell, on Feb. 23, 1898, and to this union four children were born. Ray Edward, who preceded his father in death; Mildred Jean, Fern Ethel (Mrs. Geo. H. Cook) and Harold Samuel. Also surviving are three grandchildren, two brothers, Fred, of Des Moines, and George, of Maxwell, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Cooper, of Colo, besides a host of other relatives and friends. For several years Mr. Coughenour was in the automobile business in Nevada, later returning to his farm where he lived at the time of his death. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Nevada Church of Christ with the Rev. Brady Brown in charge. Interment was in the family lot in the Evergreen cemetery in Iowa Center.”
