Last Rites Today for Andrew Auestad, 81
Andrew Auestad, former Slater resident, died on Monday evening in Des Moines at the home of his granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Graham, where he had been staying since last summer. He had been in failing health about a year. He was born on Feb. 25, 1883 at Sheldahl and was 81 years and 10 months old.
Mr. Auestad was a rural mail carrier at Kensett, Ia. for more than 30 years. He had served as mayor of Kensett, president of the school board there and a trustee of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett. He was a member of the Augustana Society of Grand View Church, the Slater I. O. O. F. and the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association.
He had lived in Des Moines the past 13 years.
Funeral services are brin held this afternoon (Thursday) at Grandview Lutheran Church in Des Moines of which he was a member. Burial will be in Slater Municipal Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Donald and Doyle of Newton and Warren of Miami, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Audrey Thompson of Kensett, Mrs. Katherine Childers, Mrs. Irene Stock, Mrs. Marilyn Deist, all of Des Moines and Mrs. Nancy Cerfogli of Ankeny; one sister, Mrs. M. S. Heggen of Slater and one brother, Herman Auestad of Des Moines and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
His wife, Della Newman Auestad, preceded him in death.
