Carolyn Lee Johnson, age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease for many years. She was cared for at Glen Oaks Care Center in Urbandale by Suncrest Hospice at the time of her passing.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held Monday, November 28, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. A reception will follow at the American Legion Post 403 in Van Meter after the burial.

Carolyn was born May 18, 1949 in Ames, Iowa to Richard and Edith (Brooks) Morck. She graduated from the state department of education in Missouri. Carolyn was employed as a caregiver at Woodward State Hospital in Woodward, Iowa for 27 years.

Carolyn met her husband, James, in Ames, Iowa. They married on October 18, 1969. They welcomed two sons, Jesse and Brian, making their family complete, until they were overjoyed by the growing addition of their beloved grandchildren. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed television, movies, music, crafting, puzzles, and sports. She was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon, and was also a big fan of Bengal’s football.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Jesse (Hannah) Johnson and Brian (Jean) Johnson; grandchildren, Cory Copley, Ashlee Johnson, Meadow Johnson, James Johnson, and one on the way; sisters, Kathy South, Mary (Blair) Yager, Evelyn (Jimmy) Kotouc, and Rose (Doug) Fink; her twin sister, Caren (Darrell) Wolfe; sister-in-law, Darla Lapole; and many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James “Jim” Johnson; brother, Bob Morck; and her parents, Richard and Edith Morck.
