Last Rites Held for Dr. R. G. Nott, 83

Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon for Dr. R. G. Nott, 83, who had practiced dentistry in Slater since 1905 until his health failed. Dr. Nott passed away Saturday at the Story County Memorial Hospital in Nevada where he had been a patient since suffering a severe stroke about a month ago.

Services were held in the First Methodist Church in Slater at 2 p. m.

The Rev. James E. Bell was in charge and chose the text John 14:1, "Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me," as the basis for his message.

Lester Moore of Sheldahl sang "Abide With Me" and "Does Jesus Care?" He was accompanied by Mrs. Orrie Stauffer at the organ.

The beautiful floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Ross Daggett and Mrs. Phil Rood.

There were many memorial gifts in tribute to the deceased.

Pallbearers were Clarence Ryg, John Zagar, Bill Schaudt, Marvin Twedt, King Schaudt and Rose Daggett.

Interment was in the Slater Municipal Cemetery.

Obituary

Dr. Robert Gilman Nott was born at Footville, Wis. on Oct.6, 1878. He was the son of Alice G. Austin and William T. Nott.

At the age of four years, he accompanied his parents to Lincoln County, S. D., where he lived until manhood.

He was graduated from the Dental College of Drake University and received his degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1905.

He came to Slater in 1904 and was united in marriage to Rose Augusta Winslow Mitchell of Des Moines on Nov. 3, 1905. Both were member of the Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Golden Year Club of Drake University and a Past Master of the Madrid Masonic Lodge. He was a former mayor of Slater, a councilman and member of the school board during the years when he was active in community affairs. He took an active part in the promotion of a water system and digging the first well for the Slater water system and worked to promote the construction of a log cabin in Nelson Park at Slater. He was a charter member of the Slater Commercial Club.

Dr. Nott passed away at the Story County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 22 after a stroke in August.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Edith Montgomery of Hollywood, Calif., and two brothers, Harvey and Ernest, of Yankton, S. D.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rose Augusta Nott, and three daughters, Mrs. Florence Nibel of Ames, Mrs. Laura Wojcieszek of Chicago and Mrs. Roberta Nott of Slater. Three grandchildren are Mrs. Earl Howard of Ames, Mrs. Harris Tollefson of West Los Angeles and Jerald J. Nibel of Hawthorne, Calif. Four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.

His stepmother, Mrs. Sophia Lovejoy and two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Hampton and Miss Alice Nott of Houston, Tex., also survive. One sister, Mrs. Thomas Harper, resides in Janesville, Wis., near the three-generation farm of Dr. Nott's grandfather, Robert G. Nott, of Rock County, Wis.
