Obituary of Mrs. J. R. Brown

Mrs. Elsie Rasmussen Brown was born at Skydness, Norway, May 9, 1861m and reached an age of 68 years, 2 months and 4 days. At the age of eleven years she accompanied her parents to America and grew to womanhood in this country. Her marriage to John R. Brown took place October 30, 1879. They made their home on a farm northwest of Slater for many years, moving later onto a farm southwest of Sheldahl. There they lived happily together, rearing a large family of children, of whom fourteen survive her. Her husband died six years ago.

Mrs. Brown was a dearly beloved woman, devoted to her home and her family. She was also a sincere Christian, a follower of the lowly Nazarene, whom she had loved to learn in early childhood days. She took a very active interest in church, doing her work well, no matter what her duties might be, and was at the time of her death the president of the Sheldahl Lincoln Ladies' Aid. Her death marked her passing on into a better, brighter world.

The fourteen children that survive her were all present at the funeral. They are: Mrs. A. E. Teigen, Joe, Fred, Howard and Oscar, all of Jackson, Minn., Carrie of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. R. C. Hedlund, Mrs. H. T. Weeks, Mabel, Ruth, Beulah, Tom, Earl and Jack, of this community.
