LENGTHY ILLNESS ENDS IN DEATH

Cancer Claims Mrs. Mahoney After An Illness of Eleven Months Duration

Mrs. Delilah Mahoney passed away last Friday forenoon at her home in Slater after a lengthy illness with cancer. Funeral was held from the St. Luke's church Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Isham. Burial was made in the local cemetery by the side of her husband who passed away eleven months ago from same trouble. Deceased was born in Jones county, Ohio in 1844 and was sixty-three years old at the time of her death. With her parents she moved to Iowa in the spring of 1853, taking up their abode at Cambridge, Iowa. In 1866 she was married to Jeremiah Mahony at Des Moines. Moving to Polk City they resided there a short time when they moved west of Slater where they lived till three years ago when they moved to Slater. She was the mother of eight children, one of whom, Nellie, died some time back. Those living were in attendance at the last sad rites with the exception of Maggie whose home is in Montana.

Deceased took sick shortly after the death of her husband a year ago and had been bedfast for four months. With her husband and daughter, Nellie, she moved to Slater three years ago. Shortly after locating here, Nellie died. Later the father took seriously ill and passed away. Now the mother has been called hence, leaving the once happy home vacant and the three occupants removed to the home of the dead.

Though the weather was very warm last Sunday friends braved the heat and gathered with the sorrowing children at the St. Luke's church to pay their last respects to the departed one.
