JULIA A. SCOTT

Julia A. Romsa, daughter of Torkel and Martha Romsa, was born at Etne, Norway, December 4, 1854. She came to America with her parents in 1856. With other early settlers she crossed the prairies of Illinois and Iowa in a covered wagon and settled among the group of pioneers that had come out from Illinois in 1855 and had taken claims in southern Story, where she grew to womanhood. She was confirmed in the Palestine Lutheran church.

In 1882 she was united in marriage to John N. Scott of Sheldahl. They made Slater their home for a number of years and took an active interest in its affairs. While residents of Slater they helped build and organize the Congregational church, which later became St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran church, of which she was a devoted worker. From 1895 till 1908 they lived on their farm near Slater, when they moved to Sheldahl, where she continued to live till death claimed her.

From an early age Mrs. Scott's life had been one of Christian service. Affiliating with the Sheldahl M. E. church, she was one of its active earnest workers. Only two weeks before her death she entertained her auxiliary. Always wanting to do her part, she sometimes went beyond her own strength to do a Christian act. Her beautiful Christian life was further reflected in her regular attendance at all church services.

She is mourned by three sons and three daughters--Mrs. E. W. Berggren and John N. of near Sheldahl; Mrs. M. L. Nernes of near Kelley, and Milton N. of Wisconsin. Ira J. of Ames and Sarah Berggren of near Sheldahl are the children of Mr. Scott and Louisa E. Scott.

She is also survived by four sister and two brothers--Mrs. Anna Moland of Ames, Mrs. Josie Anfinson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Martha Nelson of Louisville, Kentucky, and Mrs. T. T. Simonson of near Slater. The brothers are Martin Romsa of near Slater and Albert Romsa of Burns, Wyoming. There are fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
