REACHED AGE OF 80 YEARS

Mrs. Ragnild Fjelland, a Native of Norway, Had Spent Major Part of Life Here.

Mrs. Ragnild Fjelland, whose remains were laid to rest in the Fieldberg cemetery south of Huxley on Tuesday, the 7th, was born at Stavanger, Norway, September 29, 1842. Spending the early years of her long life among the scenes of her childhood, she came to America at the age of nineteen. Her marriage to Andrew Fjelland Sampson followed and for many years they made their home of Fjelland homestead east of Slater. Death called him, leaving his life companion with a family of children to provide for. She proved equal to the occasion and, armed with pluck and perseverance, overcame all obstacles, and all the children grew to be men and women of honor and esteem in the community. Those surviving her are daughters, Mrs. A. M. Mason of Cambridge and Mrs. L. N. Bouge of near Husley, and sons, Andrew, Oley and Sam of east of Slater and Tom of Edmunds, North Dakota. All were present at the funeral with the exception of Tom, who was prevented by illness in the family, the home being under quarantine. Deceased was a quiet, unassuming woman, dearly beloved in the home as well as by neighbors and friends.

The funeral services at the Fieldberg church were attended by a large crowd, relatives and friends from far and near. Her pastor, Rev. Lunde, was in charge and delivered an unusually strong sermon. He was assisted by Rev. Bueland of the Palestine chruch.
