Final Rites For Oscar Gibbons, 93

Oscar Gibbons passed away Saturday at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Winkelmann, near Slater. He was 93 years of age.

Mrs. Winkelmann had cared for her father at his home in Kansas for more than a month, and brought him and her mother from there to Slater a couple of weeks ago.

A native of Zearing, Ia., Mr. Gibbons was a well known farmer in Story county before moving to Kanas about 28 years ago.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Riis Funeral home. Rev. Herbert Phillips officiated.

Nilus Ihle sang two solos, "Rock of Ages" and "Under His Wings," accompanied by Mrs. Oliver Newman at the piano.

Casket bearers were Bert Kirkpatrick of York, Neb., Harry Britton, Harold Britton and Wm. Gray of Zearing, Maurice Britton of Nevada, all nephews of the deceased, and Albert Alleman, a friend of the family.

Burial was in the Zearing cemetery.

Obituary.

Oscar Sumner Gibbons was born in DeKalb county, Ill., Aug. 27, 1860, the son of William and Emily Gibbons. He was married on Jan. 17, 1889 to Emily Willey, moving to Zearing the same year. In 1925 they moved to Kansas. After an illness of about six weeks he returned to Story county to live with his daughter. He was a life-long member of the Methodist church.

Survivors are his wife, Emily; four children, W. M. Gibbons of Longview, Wash., Mrs. Ora Sarsfield of Atlantic, Ia., Howard Gibbons of Wauneta, Neb., and Mrs. June Winkelmann of Slater; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, W. H. Gibbons of Steelville, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Hopp [should be Clara Kopp] of Waterman, Ill., and Mrs. Rae Faxon of DeKalb, Ill., and other relatives and friends.
