Final Rites For Mrs. Anna Nerem

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Nerem, who passed away at the Sunset home in Story City Aug. 23, were held Monday.

A short service was held in the chapel of the home as follows: Hymn; devotions, Rev. Rorem; vocal solo, "Jeg Ved Mig En Soven I Jesus Navn," Mrs. John Heggen; talk, Rev. Nels O. Peterson, a nephew of Mrs. Nerem, who thanked pastor Rorem and staff and all in the home for the loving kindness they had extended to "Auntie Nerem" as she was always called.

Services at the Bethel church in Story City were held at 2 o'clock. Rev. Bringle used for his text Matt. 14:30. He spoke of the sincerity of Mrs. Nerem's Christian life. She had been a member of that congregation for many years and was very highly esteemed by all who knew her. A Norwegian solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Ser," was sung by Mrs. Peterson, head nurse at the home. Rev. Peterson gave a talk, basin hie thoughts on Ps. 46, emphasizing the need of true Christian living. Nilus Ihle sang a solo, "The Lord's Prayer."

The floral offerings were beautiful and many large gifts to missions were given.

Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Nels and Alfred Ihle, Elmore, Minn., Ed Nerem, Forest City, Edw. Nerem, Roland, Owen Ihle, Emmetsburg, and Alfred Nerem, Slater. Interment was in the Roland cemetery, the side of her husband.

Relatives and friends were present from Elmore and Donovan, Minn., Forest City, Ventura, Roland, McCallsburg, Ames, Kelley, Slater, Des Moines, Williams, Superior, Emmetsburg and Estherville.

Obituary.

Mrs. Anna Nerem was born Nov. 8, 1863 at Ilsvaag, Norway, the daughter of Nels and Soneva Ihle. She passed away at the Sunset home at Story City on Aug. 23 at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 15 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

At the age of 25 years she came to the United States in company with her nephews, Nels and John Ihle. She made her home with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Peterson.

In 1892 she was married to Torres Nerem. They established their home on a farm near McCallsburg. Retiring from the farm, they moved to Story City in 1920. Her husband passed away July 24, 1944. They had no children but raised two orphan boys, Selmer and Sherman Moore.

After her husband's death she made her home with a niece, Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Ihle, for 2 1/2 years. The last four years she has been at the Sunset home.

She was the last survivor of nine children, five boys and four girls. Two brothers, Aamond Ihle and Erik N. Ihle, and a sister, Mrs. Osmond Peterson, came to the United States and were residents of the Slater community. The others remained in Norway, the last one passing away in February at the age of 98 years.

Mrs. Nerem suffered a stroke Aug. 10 and since had been in a serious condition, rallying slightly at times but gradually became worse.

Mr. and Mrs. Nerem were faithful members of Bethel congregation and lived sincere Christian lives.

The foster sons and many nieces and nephews survive. She had many dear friends by whom she will be greatly missed.
