S. W. Johnson, 83 Died at Mason City

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Swan W. Johnson, who passed away Sunday evening at the I. O. O. F. Home in Mason City. The services were held at the Riis Funeral Home here.

Rev. Herbert E. Phillips, pastor of the Slater Methodist Church, was in charge of the services.

At the close of the sermon Mrs. Robert Newman played "The Lord's Prayer."

Burial was in the Slater Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Merle Chader, H. W. Marshall, Nels Sabo, Burton Larson, Jonas Christianson and E. C. Rood.

Among relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Croft of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Nettie Johnson of Ames and Mr. and Mrs. Torger Nelson of Redwood Falls, Minn. Mrs. Nelson is the former Florence Nelson niece of Mr. Johnson who stayed in his home while attending Slater High School, graduating with the Class of 1925. Other relatives were present from Sheldahl, Kelley and Des Moines.

Obituary.

Swan William Johnson, son of John and Mary Johnson, was born May 22, 1871 on a farm near Norwalk in Warren County. When five years old he moved with his parents to a farm three miles south of Sheldahl; then to Des Moines, and when he was 17 they made his home ever since.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the Slater Methodist Church.

In January 1897, he married Carrie Scott, who preceded him in death in 1917. In 1903 they took Ray to raise and he now resides in Des Moines.

Swan was postmaster for several years and later carried the mail.

The last two years he had been in failing health and in August, 1953, went to the I. O. O. F. Home at Mason City, where he passed away at 11 p. m., May 16 at the age of 83 years.

He is survived by Ray and a granddaughter, Margaret Anderson, and her two children of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Croft of Slater; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nettie Johnson of Ames; a brother-in=law, A. F. Nelson of Faith, S. D. and several nieces and nephews.
