DEATH CLAIMS JENS J. ROE

Passed Away at the Home of His Daughter on September 21st--Buried Sunday.

At the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sophie Larson, on Tuesday, September 21st, took place the death of Jens Roe at the advanced age of 86 years. He had been failing for some time. Funeral took place on Sunday from the Fieldberg church at Huxley, his pastor Rev. Lude, officiating. Miss Mae Ford of Kelley contributed to the services with a beautiful vocal solo. The remains were laid to rest in the Fieldberg cemetery.

Jens Johannes Roe was born at Kvinherred, Norway, December 8, 1840. He came to America in 1871, landing at Calamas, Clinton county, Iowa, on June 9th, that year. He lived there till May 1872, when he moved to Gilbert. In the fall of the same year he moved to Ballard Grove, Story county. Seven years later he bought a farm in Palestine township.

On the 18th of January, 1879 he was united in marriage to Martha Malinda Torgerson. They made the farm their home till March, 1898, when they took up their residence in Huxley. In 1903 they returned to Huxley, where they lived till death claimed Mrs. Roe. Following the death of his life companion he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Sophie Larson, where he continued to make his home till death claimed him last week. Besides his daughter he is mourned by six grandchildren.

Deceased joined the Fieldberg church in 1873, of which organization he was a member at the time of his death.
