THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, September 20, 2005.

Jewel Myrl (Fitchpatrick) McGinnis, 102, of Mitchellville, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 17. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Farrar United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Farrar Cemetery. Visitation with family will be 6 to 8 tonight at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorials may be made to Mitchell Village Care Center.

Jewel was born Aug. 7, 1903, in Lockwood, Mo., the daughter of James Thomas and Eva Nora (Barker) Fitchpatrick. She married Jim McGinnis Aug. 3, 1924. He died March 27, 1970. Three sons were born to this union, Wayne, Bill and Jerry. They moved to the Farrar area on Feb. 12, 1930, where they worked on a farm until moving into Farrar on Feb. 18, 1954. She worked at the Farrar Community School as one of the cooks from 1955 to 1970. She moved to Nevada in the summer of 1981 and later to Altoona before moving to Mitchellville. She pieced many beautiful quilts, one for every son and every grandchild. After 90 years of age, she crocheted a quilt for every great-grandchild. She was a loving person, a homemaker who loved working in the garden and with her flowers.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and Doris McGinnis of Altoona and Jerry and Terry McGinnis of Boone; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Melvin Wayne McGinnis in 2004; one brother, Earl M. Fitchpatrick; and three sisters: Edith Ray and Willie Pearl in their childhood, and Rosa Rhoads.

Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is in charge of arrangements.
