“JOHN C. MYERS FINAL RITES. – Last rites for John C. Myers, 83, whose death occurred Tuesday, September 16th, at Elsie’s home in Ames, were conducted from the Cooper-Moore Funeral Home in Maxwell Saturday, September 20, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada, officiating. Miss Esther Woodman and Mr. Orville Woodman accompanied by Mrs. Basil Caple, sang, “In the Land Where We Never Grow Old” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Flowers were arranged by Aileen Vallandingham and Mrs. Hazel Hurst. Casket bearers were sons-in-law Finley Stebbins, Jimmie Weatherman, Jake Myers, Harley Stauffer, Harold Feldt, Archie Otto. Final resting place was in the Zearing cemetery. John C. Myers, son of Sandy and sally Myers, was born near Yadkinville, North Carolina on January 16, 1869 and passed away at Elsie’s Nursing Home in Ames, Iowa Tuesday evening, September 16, 1952 at the age of 83 years, 8 months. He fell near his home in Maxwell on January 25, 1952 and broke his hip. He has been bedfast since and has failed in health until his death. He was married September 10, 1893 to Sarah Bovender of North Carolina. In the spring of 1897 they moved to Hardin county in Iowa and lived there five years before moving to Story county, where they resided since and moved to a farm west of Maxwell in 1942. He was a farmer all his life except the last five years when his health and age prevented his continuing in the work. He retired and moved into Maxwell. He was a good farmer and respected by all his neighbors and friends of which he had many. John is survived by his wife Sarah and 15 living children, 26 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and by one brother William Myers of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by two boys in infancy. The surviving children are Mary Jane Stauffer of Marshalltown; Luther Myers of Colo; Wilfred of Lancaster, Calif., Ada Mesler of Des Moines; Gertie Myers of Monroe; Myrtle Myers of Mitchellville; Etta Otto of Nevada; Laura Feldt of Clinton; Lester, Floyd and Dale of Nevada; Donald of Fort Dodge; Fred and Lue Ellen Stebbins of Maxwell; Lois Weatherman of Farrar, and many other relatives. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.”
