Obituary

Mrs. Susanna "Sana" Auestad

Funeral services for Sana Auestad, 81, were held Tuesday afternoon, April 12 at 1:30 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City with Pastor Olaf Holen of Ames officiating. Louise Olson, organist, accompanied the soloists, Mrs. Loren Tjernagel and Mrs. LaVerne Severseike as they sang, "Whispering Hope" and "My Faith Still Holds."

Casket bearers were Robert Lee, Jr., Roger Auestad, Earl Sime, Virgil Auestad, Bruce Goburn and Donald Ritland. Burial was in the Radcliffe Cemetery.

Susanna "Sana" (Lee) Auestad, daughter of Ole and Helen Lee was born on a farm south of Radcliffe on March 5, 1896. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church, south of Radcliffe.

Previous to her marriage she was a secretary for the Rock Island Railroad in Des Moines.

On December 10, 1930 she was united in marriage to Lars Auestad of Hubbard, Iowa. During their residence in Hubbard they operated the Auestad Grocery and Locker. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Story City, where she resided until her death.

Susanna "Sana" suffered a stroke in the fall of 1976, which resulted in her death. She passed away at Story City Memorial Hospital Saturday, April 9, at the age of 81 years, one month and four days.

She is survived by five sisters-in-law Mrs. Nels (Olava) Lee, Mrs. Raymond (Carrie) Hatteberg, Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Auestad and Mrs. Leonard (Hazel) Auestad also a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents and six brothers and sisters: John, Nels and Martin Lee, Osa Ritland, Mathilda Lenning and Bertha Lee.
