AGED HUXLEY CITIZEN DEAD
Word reached Slater Thursday evening from Huxley, telling of the death at that place of Reinert Sydnes who had been the victim of stroke of paralysis a few days previous Sunday evening. He had similar strokes previously and they had left him in feeble health and it soon became apparent that he would not survive this one. He continued to fail till last Thursday evening when he had a sinking spell that a few hours later terminated in his death.
Funeral took place Sunday from the Lincoln church at Huxley and an immense crowd gathered for the last sad rites and many were unable to gain entrance to the church. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. P. O. Wee. Burial was made in the Lincoln cemetery north of Huxley.
Reinert Sydnes was born September 27, 1834, at Fieldberg, Prestegjeld, Norway, where he grew to manhood and was married in the fall of 1857. The following year, 1858, with his wife he came to America and took up their residence at Lisbon, Illinois. After a six year residence there they moved to Iowa where they afterwards made their home. He was the father of 11 children, eight of whom, with a loving wife, survive him. They are sons Nels, Severt, Sakris and John and daughters Mrs. A. A. Johnson and Mrs. Ben Dueland of Slater, Mrs. William Oleson of California and Mrs. Anna Floden. All of them with the exception of John and Mrs. Oleson, who live in California, were in attendance at the funeral. He is also survived by three brothers, 38 grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.
Deceased was a member of the Lincoln church where he had been a constant attendant at services as long as health and strength permitted him. He was an active christian and died the life he lived.
