OBITUARIES OF MR. AND MRS. SEVEREID

John O. Severeid was born December 28, 1833, at Nedre Severeid, Norway, Europe. He was nest to the youngest of a family of seven children. She he bade his native land adieu in 1854 he was the only one left of the children, the others having died, and he came to America alone and with other emigrants took up his residence at Lisbon, Ill. He worked as a farm hand in that vicinity till the fall of sixty-two when he enlisted in the Union army and fought in the Civil war. Two years later, in 1865, he was honorably discharged and returned to his friends in Lisbon. Later he left Illinois for Iowa and bought what is known as the Severeid homestead southeast of Huxley.

Mrs. John O. Severeid was born at Holmedahl, Norway, September 25, 1854. With her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Richardson, she came to America in 1866. They took up their residence southeast of Huxley. On September 10, 1870, she was married to John Severeid. To this union were born seven children. Of these two are dead and five survive her. The living are their son, Oley Severeid, and daughters, Mrs. Ole Maland, Mrs. Joe Houge, Mrs. Martin Maland and Mrs. Pete Severeid. They were also the grand parents to twenty-eight children of whom three are dead.

Mr. and Mrs. Severeid were among the most highly respected people of Huxley and vicinity. They had been affiliated with the community's growth and had taken an active part in its development from the first. Both were enthusiastic church workers and always ready to lend a helping hand in any of the many branches of the church organization. They were devoted in their work, whether in church or at home, and held the esteem of their neighbors and friends.
