Funeral to The Journal.
AMES, May 6.--The funeral service of Vera Z. Stevens were held at her late home near Kelley Saturday at noon and following, the services proper were conducted from the congregational church at that place by Rev. W. J. Minchin of Ames. Miss Stevens death occurred Thursday at 11:15 a. m. and was due to tuberculosis with which she had been afflicted for more than a year. The following tribute was read as a part of the funeral service."Vera Z. Stevens was born near Kelley, Ia., July 30, 1884, and passed from this life to her home in the Great Beyond, May 2 at 11:15 a. m., 1907, aged 22 years, 10 months and 3 days. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Stevens and has grown from infancy to sweet young womanhood in our midst. She received her education in the public schools of Slater, from which she graduated three years ago. Words are futile in describing the beauty of this unselfish life which in all its purity of thought and character has been transplanted to a more congenial shore. Few such memories are left to us as hers. Her glowing face full of tenderness and patience, exquisite life of self sacrifice and the touch of her beautiful hands, will be remembered by all who knew her. Hers was a life full of ambition and many beautiful thoughts flowed from her gifted pen. Her friends are legion, none knew her but to love her."
Deceased is survived by her father and mother, one brother and one sister. Interment was made in the Ames cemetery.
