CAMBRIDGE BOY IS KILLED AT SEATTLE
Lee J. Nellis Met His Death While Performing Duty on a Vessel.
Lee J. Nellis, a son of Charles Nellis* of Cambridge, met his death recently at Seattle while engaged in watching the discharge of some heavy pumps from the hold of the sailing vessel Santa Ana. He was struck by a falling boom and instantly killed.
Nellis had been on the vessel for about a month and was with her upon a previous occasion when the ship had thrilling experience and when she nearly foundered off the coast of Vancouver Island.
According to Seattle papers the young man proved himself a hero upon that occasion, when, with other brave seamen, he stood waist deep in water for all of a day and a night and fought for the lives and safety of those aboard. The young man's mother and sister live in Seattle, where interment took place.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Levi J. "Lee" Nellis was the son of Charles Nellis and Alice E. Chandler.
