SUDDEN DEATH OF STATE CENTER MAN

Charles J. Whitson, Banker and Business Man, Found Dead in His Bed.

Oscar J. Whitson, president of the Whitson & Dobbin State Bank of State Center, was found dead in his bed at the home of his nephew, John L. McMahon, Saturday morning when a member of the family went to call him. Heart disease is attributed as the cause of his sudden demise. The deceased is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Ida C. Whitson of this city and had a number of acquaintances in this city.

Mr. Whitson had recently returned from the east where he and Mrs. Whitson had gone for the benefit of their health. The wife was at Mt. Clements, Mich., at the time of the death, having stopped there for further treatment on her way home. She arrived in State Center last evening. Mr. Whitson was in this city on Monday and became ill while here but returned to State Center where he went to the home of his nephew. He was ill during the week but was considerably better Friday.

Mr. Whitson was 59 years of age, and was born in Pennsylvania. When a child his parents moved to Iowa. Twenty-seven years ago he was married to Miss Julia Lay. In 1866 Mr. Whitson came to State Center to accept the position of station agent with the Northwestern, serving in that capacity until 1872, when he entered the J. W. Dobbin bank, in which later he became a heavy stockholder and president, and was prominently identified with the business and public affairs of Marshall county. The funeral will take place this afternoon at two o'clock.
