OBITUARY

Benjamin Belt was born in Iowa, December 4, 1853. He grew to manhood in this state and has lived the large part of his life in this community.

He was united in marriage Jan. 2nd 1874 to Luvina Dailey. This union was blessed with five children, all are living except Walter who passed away when but a child. The wife and mother also passed away April 6th 1868.

Mr. Belt had reached the age of 66 years and 22 days when he was suddenly stricken with heart failure his death having occurred sometime during Christmas night. His death was a shock to the community with the exception of his friends who knew his condition and had for some time feared that he might be taken at any time. We learn that Mr. Belt was also conscious of the danger of his affliction and had often said that there were times when it seemed he could not again regain his breath.

He had just spent Christmas with his daughter Mrs. Queenie Hemping and family and had enjoyed the day very much. When last seen about 10 p. m. he was reading and seemed in his usual health. How truly the Psalmist has said "It is but a step between me and death."

He leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Jacob of Ypres California; and Benjamin of Bennington, Kansas. Two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Root of Olney Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Queenie Hemping of Colo, Iowa. Four brothers, Marion Belt of Eagle Grove, Ia., A. J. Belt of Boone, Iowa, R. J. Belt of Waterloo, Ia., and Albert Belt of Dubuque, Ia. Besides these he leaves six grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Those who mourn have the sympathy of the entire community.

Funeral services were held from the United Evangelical church by Rev. W. C. McKinley and the remains were laid to rest in the Colo cemetery.
