Last rites for Thomas (Sidney) Armstrong, 74, were held at the Adams Funeral home, Ames, July 16 with the Rev. Robert Simmons officiating. Burial was in the Ames Municipal cemetery.

Mr. Armstong, the father of Mrs. Gordon Esbeck, died at Cedar Manor July 14 after a short illness.

The son of John A. and Louise Rubel Armstrong, he was born at Ottumwa, April 3, 1901. He was graduated from Ames high school in 1919 and attended Iowa State University.

He was married to Gwendolyn McCarty at Eagle Grove Aug. 25, 1929. He managed the Elks club at Ames for several years and was employed by the Iowa State Highway commission when he retired. He had lived in Tipton for the past 3 months.

He was a member of the First Methodist church, Ames and the Sabin Nichols Masonic lodge and the Elks club at Ames.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Mary Lou) Esbeck, Tipton, 4 grandsons and a sister, Mrs. Evald (Ethel) Petersen, Olympia, Wash. He was preceded in death by a sister.
