OBITUARY OF JASON D. FERGUSON

Native Son of Story County Who Passed Away Recently

Many Story county people especially those of Howard and Milford township hold in kindly memory the late Jason D. Ferguson, who passed away recently in California.

Jason Devillo Ferguson, son of Hiram and Martha Ferguson was born in Howard township, Story county, Iowa February 18, 1867. There he grew to manhood residing with his parents until April 1903 when he married to Mrs. Angeline Elder of Ireton, Sioux county, Iowa. They began housekeeping on a farm near Ireton where they lived until the fall of 1911 when they moved to near High Butte, Dakota where they lived for seven years, removing to Calabasas, California two years ago. He had not had any serious sickness and was in his usual health until the time of death except occasional attacks of severe headaches having one of these the day previous to his death. He had chored about the place and retired with the expectation of seeing the doctor next morning but suddenly grew worse during the night and passed away at his residence in Calabasas at an early hour Friday morning March 30, 1923 his age being 56 years, 1 month and 12 days. A post mortem developed that the cause of death was the rupture of a tumor on an artery near the heart and nothing could have been done by medical skill to have prevented the death. He leaves to mourn his death, the wife, two daughters, La Vere and Genevieve, two sons, Elder and Hiram, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Hiram F. Ferguson, also two sisters, Mrs. E. W. Kimble, Ames, and Mrs. D. L. Sowers, Iowa Falls, and a large number of other relatives. In early life while a young man he was converted in a revival meeting held at Pleasant Grove Methodist church and united with the church. He was a faithful member of the church often speaking in class meeting and remained a faithful Christian until his death.

The funeral services were held from the Reynolds & Ehrlie undertaking parlors on Wednesday following his death, after which a beautiful and impressive service was held and the mortal remains laid to rest in the beautiful Pasadena cemetery. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. A number of the Ferguson relatives living in the west were able to attend the funeral services but the father and mother on account of advanced age could not make the long trip to attend the services. He will be held in precious memory by his many friends who knew him.
