OBITUARY OF MRS. EGELAND.

Roland Woman Who Passed Away Last Week.

Special to the Journal
Roland, Feb. 6 -- Mrs. Nels Eggland [should be Egeland], a well known lady of this city, died last Tuesday at the family home, mention of whose death appeared in Wednesday's Journal. She was born in Norway, Europe, February 7, 1830. She grew to womanhood in that country and was married to Mr. Eggland [should be Egeland.] Shortly after their marriage they came to this country. In the year 1854 they located at Morris, Illinois, where they lived until 1861, when the family moved to Iowa. They located in Howard township, Story county, and brought a farm, one mile south of this city, where they lived for many years. Later they moved onto another farm two miles southwest of this city. In a few years they moved back to the old homestead where they lived until a few years ago, when they moved into town. The deceased leaves a husband and four daughters, Mrs. Martin Barke, of Canada, Mesdames Amund Erickson, J. T. Anderson and Lars Aunstein [should be Onesteen], all of this place, and Messrs. Asmund and Ed N. Eggland [should be Egeland,] of near this city, and Ingebrit Eggland [should be Egeland,] of Story City. They were all present at her bedside at the time of her death, except her daughter, Mrs. Barke, who was unable to come. The funeral was held at Bergen's church Friday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. G. Smedal officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Roland cemetery. The deceased had been sick for some time, having been confined to her bed for many months. Death was caused by a tumor on the lungs. Death was not unexpected as those around her and helping care for her were daily expecting it. She had suffered a great deal and death came as a relief to her.
