Earl Gates of Ames Died in Illinois; Funeral Wednesday

Ames, May 17--Funeral services for Earl R. Gates, 54, longtime contracting plumber of Ames, who died Sunday morning at Freeport, Illinois, where he had gone for treatment, will be held Wednesday from the Adams chapel in Ames, with Rev. Walter Morgan of the Methodist church in charge. Burial will be at Ames.

Gates, a native of Story county, was a brother of Mrs. Mary Alderman and Sadie Frosell of Nevada. He had been ill for many months with kidney trouble and had been at various points for treatment and died at the Deaconess hospital in Freeport, Ill., Sunday morning.

Mr. Gates, whose home was at 507 Duff avenue, Ames, was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Van Slyke at Freeport, and taking treatments for his ailment.

He was born at Zearing Feb. 10, 1884. He moved to Ames in 1916 and established his plumbing business here.

Surviving him are his wife and two daughter, Mrs. Berniece Rouze of Ames and Mrs. Van Slyke of Freeport, a brother, Fred Gates of Marshalltown and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Alderman and Mrs. Sadie Frosell of Nevada.

The body will lie in state at the Adams mortuary from 9 am today until time of the services.
