Obituary

CARRIE FATLAND

Carrie Magdaline Skromme daughter of Askel and Martha Skromme was born on a farm near Roland, Iowa on June 25, 1889 and passed away at Bethany Manor in Story City on June 4, 1980 at the age of 90 years and 11 months.

She was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church of Roland and remained a lifelong member of Salem.

Carrie was a graduate of Roland High School and Drake University and attended an art school in Chicago. She taught for several years. Later she and her brother, Lars J., were in business together in the Skromme Hatchery and Seed Company. Carrie also served as postmaster in Roland for 27 years before retiring in 1950.

She married Carl Fatland on June 11, 1955. He passed away August 10, 1971. Carrie became a resident of Bethany Manor on January 18, 1975.

She was a charter member of the Roland Wa-tan-ye and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

The funeral service was held in Salem Lutheran Church, Roland, on Friday, June 5 with Pastor Everett Nelson officiating. Pastors Olaf Holen and Enoch Hall brought short messages. Alan and Paula Sampson sang.

Interment was in the Roland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Eugene Christian, Thomas Christian, Bruce Orton, Milton Mehus, Kermit Molde and Roger Twedt.
