DEATHS

Carl O. Fatland

Services for Carl O. Fatland were held Thursday, Aug. 12, 1971 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church, Roland, with Rev. Olaf Olen officiating.

Music was provided by Mrs. Loren Tjernagel, soloist and Mrs. Arvie Jacobson, organist.

Pallbearers were Richard Christian, Julius Christian, Dr. John Fatland, Richard Fatland, Dr. Merton Johnson, and Clarence Orton.

Burial was in the Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.

Carl O. Fatland was born in Cambridge, July 31, 1884 to John and Sarah Fatland.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Palestine Lutheran Church in Cambridge. He attended the public schools and also graduated from the Capitol City Commercial College at Des Moines.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1903-1907, and following that became a policeman for two years in the Panama Canal Zone.

He returned to Cambridge where he was married to Lenore Buckner. To this union one son, Philip, was born.

He worked in the First National Bank at Cambridge and later had a hardware business. He was a former postmaster at Cambridge and retired from that position in 1950.

He was active in community, church, and civic affairs and a member of the Methodist Church.

His wife, Lenore, died in 1948. Philip, his son, died in 1965.

On June 11, 1955, he married Carrie Skromme, Roland, and moved to Roland. Here at Roland he was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church and also of the Kiwanis Club.

On July 21, 1971 he entered the Mary Greeley Hospital where he died ib August 10, 1971 at the age of 87 years and 10 days.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie; one brother, William, Alden; three sister, Mrs. Amanda Severson, Slater, Mrs. Evelyn Tostenrude, Aberdeen, S. D., Mrs. Marie Hopkins, Minneapolis, Minn. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lenore, one son, Philip, his parents; three brothers, Ole, Kaiser, Henry; and three sister, Jennie, Esther and Carrie.

Those attending from a distance were from Aberdeen, S. Dak., Minneapolis, Minn., Ortley, S. Dak., Rapid City, S. Dak., Des Moines, Ames, Cambridge, Nevada, Alden, and Story City.
