Obituary of Maynard Christian
Maynard Earl Christian, son of Jacob and Lena Christian, was born in Roland on September 2, 1907, and passed away after two months illness at the age of 54 years, at the University Hospital in Iowa City on March 17, 1962, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Maynard lived his entire life in the Roland community. He was baptized and confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church, where he was a lifetime member.

On April 6, 1940, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louk. To this union were born four children, Linda, Charles, Norma, and Paula.

Maynard had been employed at the Farmers Cooperative Elevator for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Roland Fire Department for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob, and one brother, Herbert. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, one son and three daughters, all at home; his mother, Lena, of the Sunset Home at Story City; one sister, Mrs. Jon (Ethel) Zumsteg, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two brothers, Richard and Chester of Roland; and many other relatives.

Funeral services were held in Salem Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 21, with Pastor Everett Nelson officiating. Orris J. Osheim sang "In the Garden", and Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Christian sang "Beyond the Sunset".

Interment was in the Roland cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerald Borwick, Richard Strum, Donald Rasmusson, Richard Morgan, Ted Sampson, and Otto Twedt.

People attending the funeral from out of town were from Jefferson, Boone, Cedar Rapids, Story City, McCallsburg, Nevada, Colo, Waterloo, Clinton, Paton, Ames, Storm Lake, Jewell, Radcliffe, Ellsworth, and Randall, Iowa; Ellendale, Minn.; and Santa Barbara, Calif.
