Gurney Rullestad Funeral Services Held In Slater

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 16, at 2 p. m. at the Riis Funeral Home in Slater for Gurney Rullestad of Huxley who died Tuesday, Feb. 13. Pastor Clyde Brueland of the Palestine Church was in charge of the service.

Mrs. Arlin Sheldahl of Huxley sang "Rock of Ages," "No Disappointment in Heaven" and "Near to the Heart of God." Mrs. Gordon Rullestad of Cambridge, her mother, accompanied her.

Casket bearers were Arthur Larson and Oley Eide of Ames, Cecil Rullestad of Jewell, Andy Egeland and Obert Overland of Huxley.

Interment was in the Lincoln cemetery north of Huxley.

The many gifts in memoriam were given to the Palestine Lutheran Church and to several Mission projects.

Life Sketch

Gurney Alfred Rullestad was born Nov. 1, 1905, near Jewell, Iowa. He was the second son of Lars and Belle Rullestad of Huxley. He was baptized by the late Rev. C. J. Eastvold in the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, and fonfirmed by the late Rev. H. H. Knudsvig at Saron Lutheran Church at Audubon, Minn.

His occupation was a crane operator for several years and was engaged in this practice in several states until in 1942 when he returned to Huxley to take over the operation of his farm and where he continued to live until the time of his death.

He never married, but his parents made their home with him.

He had been in ill health for some time and Rev. 12 he entered the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames for observation and treatment of a kidney ailment which also caused a heart condition that proved fatal on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 6:25 p. m. at the age of 56 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Gladys (Mrs. John Tweedt) of Estherville, Iowa; and Maxine (Mrs. Delbert Nelson) of Champaign, Ill.; and one brother, Amer Rullestad of Wadena, Minn. Also surviving are two nephew, Gerald Rullestad of Ames and Charles Nelson of Champaign, Ill.; five nieces, Mary Jo, Janet and Catherine Nelson of Champaign, Ill., Sandra (Mrs. Jim Garrett) of Evansville, Ind., and Betty Ann (Mrs. James Parker) of Tucson, Ariz.; two great nieces and one great nephew, also of Tucson, Kay, Mary and Jimmie Parker, and a great nephew, David Garrett of Evansville, Ind.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard, who died Feb. 24, 1961.
