George Thompson Funeral Services Held At Collins

Funeral services for George Thompson were held Monday afternoon at the Collins Christian Church. Rev. Wm. Hill was clergyman in charge. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Sometime We'll Understand" was sung by a trio, Mrs. Russell Oswalt, Mrs. Richard Holland and Mrs. Charles Rhoads with Mrs. Hugh Fertig as organist.

Flower girls were Mrs. Harold Hale and Mrs. Mercie Wear.

Casket bearers were Russell Oswalt, Wm. Huntrods, Wm. Geisler, Orville Robinson, Berle Robinson and Gil Newman.

Burial was in the family lot at the Peoria cemetery.

Life Sketch

George Thompson, son of Thomas and Eliza Thompson, was born at Sleights, England, November 1, 1878, and died suddenly at his home in Collins, January 13, 1962, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 12 days.

He was married to Mary Ann Duesbury in 1903. They remained in England until 1909 when they and their three small children immigrated to Iowa to make their future home. For more than half a century the family has lived in or near the Collins community where he was engaged in farming. In 1939 he retired and moved to Collins where they have made their home.

In 1950 be became a member of the Church of Christ of Collins and was an active member as long as his health permintted.

Two daughters in early childhood preceded him in death. Survivors include his widow, Mary; five daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Hannah) Westcott, Mrs. Royal (Vinnie) Cory, both of Collins, Mrs. Ed (Violet) Haley, Mrs. Russell (Maud) Schauper, both of Maxwell and Mrs. Lawrence (Olive) Dodd of Colo; a son, William of Collins; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grand children; a number of nephews and nieces and a wide circle of friends.
