Mrs. Lucy Johnson Funeral Services Are Held Tuesday

Lucy Ellen Johnson was born Feb. 9, 1889 at Giltner, Neb., a daughter of Charles and Malinda Mayo, and died Friday, Dec. 29, 1961 at the Story County Hospital, Nevada, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 20 days.

When she was seven years of age, she with her family, moved by covered wagon from Giltner, Neb. to Nevada, Iowa. She attended the public schools of Nevada. Early in life she made her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the Christian Church. Until recent years she had kept an active interest in the work of the church and especially the Woman's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors Chapter of Nevada.

In the spring of 1907, Lucy Ellen was united in marriage to Oscar Johnson in a home ceremony in Nevada, Iowa. They made their home in Nevada where they raised a family of three children, Helen, Charles and David.

In her passing she leaves one daughter, Mrs. L. H. (Helen) Van Scoy and one grandson, Jerry Van Scoy of Ames, Iowa. She also leaves one brother, Ralph Mayo of Omaha, Neb. and two sisters, Mrs. Ray Cook, Sr. of Ames and Mrs. Myrtle Padellford of Nevada, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held at the Nevada Christian Church Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1962 at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. W. R. Tuttle officiating.

Mrs. Arlene Huhn, soloist, was accompanied at the organ by Virginia Bierschwal, when she sang, "Beyond the Sunset."

Casket bearers were Max Cook, Ray Cook Jr., Louie Jones, Henry Larson, Elmore Mayo and Ray Padellford.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
