BACKOUS, JUSTIN IRVIN (1975-1997)
THE AMES TRIBUNE, September 23, 1997. “JUSTIN IRVIN BACKOUS Oct. 3, 1975-Sept. 20, 1997. Justin Irvin Backous, 21, of Mason City and formerly of Nevada died Saturday at Story County Hospital in Nevada of injuries sustained in an auto accident. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Coop-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. Private burial of the cremains will be at a later date. Justin Irvin Backous was born in Iowa City, the son of Rod Backous and Rebecca (Germain) Williams. Mr. Backous was employed in auto body repair for C & J Auto body in Mason City. He enjoyed playing Hacky Sack, traveling, attending concerts throughout the country and being a new father to his 1-year-old son, Kai. Mr. Backous was a resident of Mason City for three years. He also lived in Nevada, Iowa; Alaska, and Colorado. Survivors include his parents, Rod Backous of Nevada and Rebecca Williams of Ames; one son, Kai Backous of Mason City; four sisters, Jennifer Backous of Huxley, Nova Hensch of Ames, April Backous and Amanda Backous, both of Nevada; one step-brother, Eric Williams of Ames; one step-sister, Sara Williams of Sioux city; grandmothers, Alice Backous or Nevada and Margaret Sandrock of Detroit; and grandfather, Conrad Germain of Grimes. He was preceded in death by one grandfather. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home.”

Justin Irvin Backous, 21, of Mason City and formerly of Nevada, died Saturday, Sept. 20, at Story County Hospital from complications suffered in an automobile accident. He was born to Rod Backous and Rebecca (Germain) Williams in Iowa City on Oct. 3, 1975. His hobbies included playing hacky sack, spending time with friends and being a new father to his son, Kai. He also enjoyed traveling to attend concerts throughout the country. He worked in auto body repair for C & J Auto Body in Mason City. He had lived in Mason City for three years, and prior to that had lived in Nevada, Alaska and Colorado. Survivors include his parents, Rod Backous, of Nevada, and Rebecca Williams, of Ames; his 1-year-old son, Kai Backous, of Mason City; four sisters, Jennifer Backous, of Huxley, Nova Hensch, of Ames, April Backous, of Nevada, and Amanda Backous, of Nevada; a step-brother, Eric Williams, of Ames; a step-sister, Sara Williams, of Sioux City; and his grandparents, Alice Backous, of Nevada, Margaret Sandrock, of Detroit, Mich., and Conrad and Barbara Germain, of Grimes. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Irvin R. “Bud” Backous in 1992. Funeral services are being held today (Sept. 25) at 1:30 p.m. at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. A cremation will follow the services, and private burial of the cremains will be held at a later date.”
