PIONEER SLATER WOMAN IS DEAD

MRS. MARTHA STORING DIED AT HOME OF DAUGHTER IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Slater, Dec. 31--Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Storing, 88, of Sherman, S. D., were held here Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at the Oley Storing home and two o'clock at the Bethlehem church. Rev. E. R. Rorem had charge of the services, assisted by Rev. A. J. Evenson of Sherman, S. D. The former spoke in the English and the latter in the Norwegian language. Miss Josie Ryg, Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Will There be any Stars in My Crown." Mrs. Heggen sang "Den Store Hvide Flok," and Mrs. Peterson sang "Jeg Er En Fremed." Many beautiful floral offerings surrounded the casket. The pall bearers were H. E. Halverson, N. R. Sydnes, Gunder Eide, Oley Nelson, Henry Ersland and Torkel Walker.

Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery by the side of her husband who died in 1911.

Beret Martha Erickson was born at Levanger, Skognsmarkaybygd, near Trondhjem, Norway, March 25, 1841.

She came to America with her parents, Erick and Beret Erickson, in 1869, to La Crosse, Wis. In 1870 they moved to Iowa. Her marriage to John Storing took place Oct. 25, 1870. They made their home on a farm east of Slater and lived there till 1899 when they moved to Slater. Six children were born to this union, of which two are living. After the death of her husband she made her home with her daughter Mrs. A. J. Evenson at Sherman, S. D., where she has live the past sixteen years. Her health had been failing the past year. Death came Dec. 24, 1929, at the age of 88 years and 9 months. She leaves to mourn her loss one son, Oley Storing of Slater and one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Evenson, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Sherman, S. D., Friday afternoon conducted by two neighboring pastors, Rev. T. A. Mason of Garretson and Rev. Edwin Hegland of Jasper, S. D.

Among those from out of town at the services were Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Evenson of Sherman, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. James Storing of Lost Nation, Miss Olena Buran of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Erickson of Cambridge, Mrs. Anfin Apland of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sheldahl, Mrs. Anna Sheldahl of Sheldahl, Mr. and Mrs. Weir Weeks and Mildred of Hucley and J. C. Ersland of Nevada.
