CIVIL WAR VETERAN DROPPED DEAD WHILE AT CHORES

W. H. GUGE, 81, VICTIM OF HEART TROUBLE.--DEATH WAS SUDDEN.

W. H. Guge, 81, Civil War veteran and pioneer of Story county, dropped dead at the farm home of his daughter, Mrs. Rose Brodie, southeast of Colo, Wednesday evening about 5:30.

Mr. Guge had been in Nevada the day before and was feeling in his usual health when he went out to pick up a basket of chips for use in the kitchen stove in the preparation of the evening meal.

As he leaned over a sudden attack of heart trouble seized him and he toppled over dead.

The daughter, Mrs. Brodie, with whom he made his home, was in Minnesota at the time but she was hastily summoned home. He also leaves a son, Nate Guge of this city and another daughter, Mrs. Charles Smith of Maxwell.

Mr. Guge was a native of Indiana, where he was born 81 years ago July 16. He enlisted in the Union army from that state, serving throughout the war in the Fifty-third Indiada infantry.

Shortly after the close of the war, he with his family moved to Iowa and located near Iowa Center in Story county, and his home had since been in this county.

His wife had been dead for a score of years of more, and he had since made his home with his children.

Funeral services will be held from the church in Iowa Center Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which interment will be in Evergreen cemetery at that place. The services will be in charge of his old pastor, Rev. Busenberg, assisted by Rev. Lookingbill of this city.
