OBITUARY OF PIONEER
Mrs. Francis Dawson-Sanders Come to County in 1854.
Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, Dec. 31--Word has reached here of the recent death of Mrs. Francis Dawson-Sanders, 93, pioneer of this neighborhood, which occurred at the home of he son, Isaac Dawson, at Scotch Grove, Jones county, Dec. 5, and the body was brought back to Baxter where the funeral was held and interment was in the old Peoria cemetery south of here. She is well remembered by many of the old people of this community.She was born Francis Bamberger, March 31, 1831, in Fairfield county, Ohio, where she grew to young womanhood and came to Story county with her people in 1854. A year later she was united in marriage to Cyrus P. Dawson and they located on a farm a mile west of Maxwell, where the husband died September 4, 1869.
Five children had been born to them of whom four still live to mourn the death of the parents. They are Mary of Baxter; Jemina of Woon Socket, S. D., Rebecca of Winterset and Isaac of Scotch Groves, Martha who died November 20, 1879 left an infant son, Sanford Loonis, who was cared for and raised by the deceased and who now lives at Perry.
On Sept. 4, 1869 the husband and father died leaving the home and care of the children to the mother.
In the year of 1890, she was married to Hiram Sanders. They lived on a farm near Baxter until his death in 1906. Most of the time since she has spent with her son, Isaac at whose home she passed away Dec. 5, 1924 at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 4 days. She was converted when a young girl joining the United Brethren church and remained a faithful christian until her death.
