THE MAXWELL, TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, April 12, 1951, page 1, column 3. “JOHN CAIRNS RITES MONDAY. – John Cairns, son of Robert and Elizabeth Lester Cairns, was born in Des Moines, Iowa, July 3, 1869, and departed this life at his home south of Maxwell April 7, 1951, at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 4 days. At the age of eight months his parents moved to the Loring vicinity and he lived his entire life in this community with the exception of eleven years during which time he resided at Climbing Hill, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Anna Link on September 7, 1893 and they were privileged to enjoy this wedded life for over fifty seven years. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Two infant sons, his father, mother, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Anna, son George, daughters Mrs. Hazel Harmon and Mrs. Mabel Ozmun, one grandson John Ozmun and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. “His life work for us is ended His trials forever are o’er: While surrounded by anxious loved ones, He passed to the other shore.” Funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church on Monday afternoon, April 9, at 2:00 o’clock in charge of Rev. E. r. Walter. Mrs. Ray Gooden sang two songs “Some Day He’ll Make it Plain To Me: and “The Lord is My Shepherd" with Mrs. Arthur Porter at the piano. The floral tributes were many and very beautiful and were arranged by Mrs. Bert Denton and Mrs. D. E. Peters. The pallbearers were six nephews, Harry Cairns, Harold Link, William Cairns, Virgil Miller, Chas. Zilm and Darrell Link. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
